Emergency Food

The importance of preparedness

Emergency foodMany countries regularly face emergencies which require rapid humanitarian assistance.

These emergencies include natural disasters such as earthquakes, cyclones, droughts and floods and man-made disasters – civil unrest, armed conflict, environmental and technological disasters.

Those disasters leave behind populations which cannot provide themselves with their daily basic needs.

“For humanitarian response to be effective, coordinated, dependable and timely emergency preparedness is a prerequisite” (UN Inter-Agency Contingency Planning Guidelines). One part of emergency preparedness is to keep stocks of emergency food in strategic locations.

BP-5™ emergency food

Understanding the importance of delivering food aid within hours of a disaster, Compact for Life has developed an emergency food ration, BP-5™ that has both the nutritional and logistical qualities required to be an invaluable relief food item.

Compact BP-5™ recipe is such that it has a shelf-life of 5 years which is an essential quality for preparedness stocka. In addition to our own stocks in strategic locations, Non Governmental Organizations, UN agencies, and other parties involved in emergency relief have used BP-5™ for many years in their own disaster preparedness stocka (for further information read our report, BP-5™ high energy biscuits in the field).
