BP-100™ is a compressed ready to use therapeutic food (RUTF) of high nutritional value developed for use in the phase 2 of treatment (rehabilitation & treatment phase) of severely malnourished children and adults.
As a solid form of F-100, BP-100™ is more likely to be appreciated in the long term by adults and adolescents than semi-liquid RUTFs. This can influence the outcome of the treatment by ensuring that severely malnourished adolescents and adults keep their appetite during the whole period.
Easier to administer than the WHO F-100 therapeutic milk, BP-100™ is more hygienic and less labour demanding (especially useful in contaminated environments and where no therapeutic feeding facilities can be established). Accordingly, it can be used in therapeutic feeding centres but also distributed direct to families as a take home rations.
The content of micronutrients in BP-100™ is in accordance with the recommendation in the WHO manual and can be seen from the datasheet for BP-100™.
The nutritional specification is very similar to the therapeutic WHO formula F-100. The major nutritional difference between F-100 and BP-100™ is that BP-100™ contains iron (10 mg per 100g).
The optimal logistical properties secure an easy, safe and efficient transportation, distribution, usage and storage under extreme conditions. BP-100™ is the RUTF with the longest shelf life, 4 years in an unopened package which enables organizations to make long-term planning and establish preparedness stocks.
